Inversion/Devrik yapı

Inversion (devrik yapı), bazı durumlarda standart cümle öğelerinin diziminde değişiklik yapılmasıdır.

Yardımcı fiilin özneden önce getirilmesiyle devrik yapılar yapılabilir.

I will never see you again.
Never will I see you again.

Fiillerin özneden önce getirilmesiyle devrik yapılar yapılabilir:

John goes there.
There goes John.

Aşağıda devrik yapılar gruplanarak açıklanmıştır.

1-  Olumsuz anlam içeren bu zarfları cümle başına getirirsek, cümlede sorularda olduğu gibi, yardımcı fiili özneden önce getiririz:

a) seldom, rarely, scarcely, little, barely, never,b) not once, not until, not since,c) only, only by chance, only in this way, only then,d) in no way, at no time, on no account, nowhere, by no means, in/under no circumstancese) hardly … when, no sooner … than, not only … (but also),

Örnekler:

I have never been to Paris.
= Never have I been to Paris.

 I could understand him only then.
= Only then could  I  understand him.

 He’s not only a singer, but he’s also a good dancer.
= Not only is he a singer, but he’s also a good dancer.

Fiillerin özneden önce getirilmesiyle devrik yapılar yapılabilir:

John goes there.

There goes John.

Aşağıda devrik yapılar gruplanarak açıklanmıştır.

1-  Olumsuz anlam içeren bu zarfları cümle başına getirirsek, cümlede sorularda olduğu gibi, yardımcı fiili özneden önce getiririz:

a) seldom, rarely, scarcely, little, barely, never,b) not once, not until, not since,c) only, only by chance, only in this way, only then,d) in no way, at no time, on no account, nowhere, by no means, in/under no circumstancese) hardly … when, no sooner … than, not only … (but also),

Örnekler:

I have never been to Paris.
= Never have I been to Paris.

I could understand him only then.
= Only then could  I  understand him.

He’s not only a singer, but he’s also a good dancer.
= Not only is he a singer, but he’s also a good dancer.

I wanted you to play on the school team at no time.
= At no time did I want you to play on the school team.

2- Only after, only by, only if, only when, not until ifadeleri ile yapılan yan cümleler cümle başında kullanıldığında, inversion ana cümlede olur:

I saw his face only when he turned on the light.
= Only when he turned on the light did I see his face.

You’ll win the exam only if you study hard.
= Only if you study hard will you win the exam.

3- Karşılaştırmalarda as/than kelimelerinden sonra devrik yapı kullanılabilir.

She can play football well as can her mother.
(Annesi gibi iyi futbol oynayabilir)

Sally was happy, as were her friends.

He likes table tennis as do most of his school friends.

4- so … that, such … that (öyle … ki, o kadar ki..) kalıplarında inversion

She is such a nice girl that her friends likes her.

Such a nice girl is she that her friends likes her.

(O kadar hoş bir kız ki arkadaşları onu sever)

She wrote so badly that no one could read.

So badly did she write that no one could read.
(O kadar kötü yazdı ki kimse okuyamadı)

Such was the bomb that the whole city was destroyed.
(Öyle bir bombaydı ki tüm şehir yıkıldı)

So difficult was the question that he couldn’t find the answer for a long time.
(Öyle zor soruydu ki uzun süre cevabını bulamadı)

So carefully did he work that he made no mistake.
(Öyle dikkatli çalıştı ki hiç hata yapmadı)

 5- Here, there, outside the house, into the lake, on the wall, in the garden, on the chair gibi yer ve hareket bildiren ifadeler cümle başına geldiğinde fiil özneden önce gelir.

En çok rastlanılan fiiller «be, come, go, lie, exist, follow, remain, stand».

Örnekler:

Here comes my teacher.

There goes the train.

In front of the house were two cars.

Towards to me comes a young woman.

In the vase are some flowers.

Yukarıdaki devrik ifadelerde eğer özne bir zamirse (I, you, he, she, it, we, they), fiil onu izler:

Here comes George.

Here he comes.

In fronts of house were apple trees.

In front of the house they were.

On the wall hung a picture of a lion.

On the wall it hung.

Here ve there ile yapılan devrik ifadeler vurgulu olduğundan Türkçe’ye «işte» şeklinde tercüme edilebilir.

Here I am. (İşte buradayım)

There goes the train. (İşte tren (orada) gidiyor)

6- Bazı zaman zarfları da başta kullanılarak, fiil özne önüne alınabilir.

Now comes your turn.

Then came the important moment.

7- Away, down, out, off, in, up gibi zarflar başa alınarak fiil özne önünde kullanılabilir. Bu kullanım genellikle past simple tense’de görülür.

Away flew the birds.

Down went the cat.

Out rushed the students from the school.
The door opened and in came the school director.

Yukarıdaki devrik ifadelerde eğer özne bir zamirse (I, you, he, she, it, we, they), fiil onu izler:

Off ran the people to the building.
Off they ran to the building.

Down went the cat.
Down it went.

The door opened and in came the school director.
The door opened and in he came.

8 – So do I / Neither do I …

Olumlu bir ifadenin başkası için de geçerli olduğunu, so + ifadedeki yardımcı fiil + özne   kalıbıyla, olumsuz bir ifadenin başkası için de geçerli olduğunu neither + ifadedeki yardımcı fiil + özne kalıbıyla ifade edebiliriz. Neither yerine nor da kullanılabilir.

‘I am from Turkey.’
‘So am I.’ (= I am from Turkey, too.’ )

‘I don’t like snakes.’
‘Neither do I.’ (= I don’t like snakes, either.)
Neither yerine nor da kullanılabilir:
‘I don’t like snakes.’   ‘ Nor do I.’

Başka örnekler:

Elephants can’t swim in the water, neither can camels.
(Filler suda yüzemez, develer de yüzemez)

John draws very well, so do I.
(John çok iyi çizebilir, ben de)

‘We worked very hard last week.’ ‘So did we.’
(Geçen hafta çok sıkı çalıştık. Biz de öyle)

Sally didn’t come yesterday and neither did his sister.
(Sally dün gelmedi kardeşi de gelmedi)

John has been on plane quite a few times. So have I.
(John çok kere uçağa bindi. Ben de öyle)

“I won’t go out tonight.” “Neither will I.”
(Bu gece dışarı çıkmayacağım. Ben de öyle)

9- If- clause’larda “if” kaldırılarak ‘‘were, had, should, could” özne önünde kullanılabilir.

Type 1:

Should you decide to go with me, I’ll be there.
(= If you decide to go with me, …)

Type 2:

Were I in your position, I would resign.
(= If I were in your position, …)

Type 3:

Had you informed us earlier, we wouldn’t have waited for you.
(= If you had informed us earlier, …)

10- Bazen cümledeki nesne, fiil vb. vurgu amacıyla cümle başında kullanılabilir.
Bread you can eat occasionally, but white sugar you will never touch.
